Our assignment for the design of products in healthcare elective was to improve teamwork on the bedside from the staff perspective. Our assignment was located in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital and focused on the process surrounding the chemotherapy preparation, transportation and delivery process.
The preparation of chemotherapy is surrounded with a lot of protocols due to the highly dangerous and chemical nature of the product. This causes that at every step from prescription,preparation,transportation to administering a double check is done by the staff involved. The approval and check at every step causes that in busy times delay and miscommunication is created because it is unclear at which step the prescription or chemotherapy is in the preparation process.
In order to solve this, we envision a application which can act as a information system for the status of the chemotherapy in the hospital, but also support the different stakeholders in the process with the task of double checks, ensuring that the different protocols are executed. Furthermore the chemotherapy bags are equipped with RTLS chips, making it impossible to lose one of the chemotherapy boxes in the process.
The final concept is a information system in which each different stakeholder in the system gets its own portal, for the sake of this course, only the nurse perspective has been developed in a visual prototype.
